Calafuria Calafuria (36 km) The first stretch of high coast, carved by the waves and formed of quartz sandstone. The area is covered by the typical vegetation of the Mediterranean maquis, made up of evergreen trees bent by the winds. Shrubs and garrigue grow on the rocky ridges that descend to the sea. Wild boar, foxes and porcupines inhabit the area.
Castiglioncello Castiglioncello (25 km) Rich in history, its beauty did not go unnoticed by the Romans, as the splendid villas along the coast can testify. In the Middle Ages the Pisan Del Porto family built a castle, Castiglione Modiglio, from which the modern name Castiglioncello derives. In the 15th century the Medici family built a watch-tower which can still be visited.
